We're off to a splendid start, the sort of start that makes one suspect the laws of probability have briefly stepped out for a smoke. Photos are pouring in at a rate that suggests many of you have discovered a previously unknown enthusiasm for pointing cameras at things. You’re identifying attractions with admirable precision, taking exactly the right pictures, and generally making my life so easy that I’m beginning to worry you’re up to something. Nevertheless, thank you.
The attractions submitted so far are genuinely delightful — the kind of sights that make a person say, “Well, that’s interesting,” even if they’re alone and no one is around to appreciate the remark. Bonus attractions have already begun appearing on the score sheets, which is either a sign of healthy competition or mild mischief. Either way, the game is very much afoot. For those who haven’t ventured out yet, I trust you’ve concocted a plan of such brilliance that it will make everyone else wonder why they didn’t think of it first.
A small but important reminder: scoring for each week concludes precisely at 9 p.m. Eastern Time every Saturday. At that moment, the metaphorical shutters come down, the clerks stop stamping things, and anything received afterward is politely escorted to next week’s tally. Time, as they say, waits for no rider.
And remember — if you can ride, you can earn points. There is an astonishing amount of curious, charming, and occasionally baffling stuff out there waiting to be discovered. Go find it. Photograph it. Send it in. Revel in the glorious absurdity of it all.
